The Presiding Priest of the historic Holy Aruosa Cathedral, Ohen-Osa Igbinoghodua Edebiri, has called on leaders across Nigeria to resist the perversion of justice, stressing that only fairness and integrity in governance can guarantee lasting peace in the country.
Edebiri made the appeal on Sunday during the Coronation Anniversary Thanksgiving Service of the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty Oba Ewuare II, held in Benin City.
Call for Justice and Exemplary Leadership
The priest urged those in authority to lead by example, particularly in matters of dispute resolution and the promotion of peaceful coexistence within the Benin Kingdom and beyond. He warned that when justice is compromised, society risks descending into strife and instability.
“Those entrusted with leadership must guide against the perversion of justice if we are to enthrone peace in our land,” Edebiri declared.
A Message of Godliness and Responsibility
Edebiri also admonished worshippers to embrace godliness in their daily lives, warning against evil practices. He emphasized that individuals who live in accordance with divine principles would enjoy God’s blessings.
Turning his attention to the youth, the priest raised concerns about the growing menace of illicit drug use and trafficking in Edo State. He urged parents and community leaders to take a firm stand in correcting their children, warning that negligence could have dire consequences.
“Parents who are feeble in correcting their children may have the long arm of the law to contend with on the day of judgment,” he cautioned.
Dignitaries in Attendance
The thanksgiving service drew a distinguished gathering of traditional, political, and community leaders. Representing the Oba of Benin were two prominent chiefs: Osaro Idah, the Obazelu of Benin, and Osaigbovo Osamwonyi, the Akenuwa of Benin.
Also present were representatives of the Oba’s ancestral relations, led by Barrister Chuks Iduh, who stood in for Prince Ephraim Odiakose Nwabuokei of Onicha-Olona in Delta State.
Other dignitaries included the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Chief Blessing Agbebaku, the Ima of Somorika, Oba Sule Idaiye, members of the Benin Royal Family, and political figures such as Osarobo Osagie, Oredo APC Chairmanship aspirant.

The service, marked by prayers and thanksgiving, underscored the importance of moral renewal and unity in Edo State. Edebiri’s message resonated strongly with attendees, reinforcing the role of faith, justice, and discipline in building a society that reflects the values of the Benin Kingdom and Nigeria at large.
