Igarra FRSC Unit Launches 2022 Ember Months Sensitization Campaign

The Igarra unit command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) RS5.I4 has launched a campaign against speeding, overloading and the use of unsafe tyres in Akoko – Edo local government area.

Speaking at the launch of the exercise, the head of local government administration and acting chairman of Akoko-Edo local government area, Dr Innocent Alenoghena lamented the numbers of road accidents that lead to the loss of lives in the yuletide season otherwise referred to as Ember months.

He identified recklessness of motorists as being one of the major causes of accidents and avoidable deaths and called on stakeholders to work more in collaboration to minimizing incidence of road carnage in the locality.

Dr. Alenoghena extolled the positive impact of the FRSC and noted that the corps was established to “To carry out traffic management, prevention and minimizing accidents on the highway, supervision of users of such highways, education of motorists, traffic regulations, clearing of any form of obstruction as well as conducting research on causes of crises and proffering solutions among others”.

Also speaking at the event, the Assistant Corps Commander of RS5. 14 Igarra unit command, Olumuyiwa.M Adesuyi, noted that this year’s rally is an operational strategy evolved by the organization to mitigate the rising traffic challenges of both human and vehicular movement in the country, particularly during the Christmas period.

“The ember months is characterized by high rate of traffic volume of speeding, overloading, wrongful overtaking, night journey and drunken driving”.

He pointed out that this year’s campaign was apt as it was designed to address all the road challenges that have been highlighted at the event.

“Our duty basically is to prevent crashes and reduce fatalities because statistics has shown that the major causes of road accidents is over speeding”
He said that to engender quality road use, commercial and private vehicle drivers should always exercise caution and drive within the regulated speed limit adding that this had brought about the corps enforcement of speed limit devices on all buses and articulated vehicles.

The corps commander assured that that the sensitization exercise will be extended to motor parks, churches, mosques, and media houses in the local government area.
