The Edo State Government has announced the death of another person from Lassa fever, bringing the total number of fatalities to 13. The state also confirmed eight new infections, increasing the total cases to 115.
The Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akoria Obehi, said the government was working hard to curb the spread of the disease in all Edo communities. She urged the residents to cooperate with the government by following the preventive measures against the disease.
“Eight new cases of Lassa fever have been verified in Edo State, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 115.” she added.
“According to the updated statistics, the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital is currently providing care for 40 patients, comprising 26 adults and 14 children.”
Akoria stated, “If you experience symptoms such as severe headache, vomiting, and high fever, among others, you must quickly rush to the nearest health care center close to you to report.” She also noted that the state is ready and equipped to manage reported instances of Lassa fever.
The commissioner stated that 08060593802 is the number to reach the State Disease Surveillance and Notification Officer, and 08064258163 is the number to reach the State Epidemiologist.
