The governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, is ready to deliver on his promise of a house to a biology teacher at Asoro Grammar School (Senior), Mrs. Benedicta Idele, who came second in the 2021 Maltina Teacher of the Year competition.
The state government announced on Thursday that Idele would receive keys to a housing unit in Emotan Gardens, the government’s housing project built by the Edo State Development and Property Agency, in Sakponba area of Edo State.
The biology teacher won the 2021 Best Science Teacher Prize; 2021 Best Public School Teacher; 2021 Overall Best Teacher in Edo State Prize and Mobile Telephone Network’s M-Pulse Educator for 2021.
The EDPA is set to handover finished units of the estate to subscribers at the estate site in Upper Sakponba, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.
The award-winning teacher said she was inspired by the governor’s excellent support for the education sector in the state, for which he was awarded the Nigeria Union of Teachers’s Best Governor of the Year 2019.
She said, “I took the governor’s award as a challenge. I am glad that I was acknowledged nationally for the dedication put in the classroom.
“Some people had said the promise of a house was a mere political statement, which may not be kept. But I am happy that I have now been invited to come for the handover ceremony of the house.”
“As he has continued to prove, the governor is a man of his words and I am happy to be getting this award. This is a great honour and I am really thankful,” Mrs. Idele said.
