The Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City will transform into a hub of sporting and business activities from July 15, 2024, as the 2024 National Division One Handball Premier League gets underway.
In partnership with the Edo State Sports Commission, the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) has secured the support of the Edo State Government as host and sponsor, building on a successful collaboration that began in 2022.
Edo State Sports Commission Chairman, Olympian Yussuf Alli, has pledged a seamless and memorable experience for participants, showcasing the state’s renowned hospitality.
According to Prof. Emmanuel Akhigbe, Chairman of the Competition Organizing Commission for the Handball Federation of Nigeria, teams and officials will arrive on July 14, 2024, with matches taking place from July 15 to 19 at the Multi-Purpose Sports Hall of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
The National Division One League serves as a gateway to the top-tier Ardova Handball Premier League, with the champions and runners-up in both male and female categories earning promotion in 2025.
Relegated teams from the Ardova Handball Premier League 2023, including Bendel Dynamos Men, Bayelsa Queens, and Police Machine Men, will participate alongside other teams not competing in the Ardova Handball Premier League 2024.
The Handball Federation of Nigeria’s Secretary General, Almu Umar Lambu, expressed gratitude to the Edo State Government for their partnership in hosting and sponsoring the National Division One League.
