Oba of Benin Calls for Global Peace Amid Russia-Ukraine Conflict

His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II, the revered Oba of Benin, has made a plea for global peace amidst the ongoing and escalating conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Seven months into the war, the Benin Monarch expressed deep concern and frustration over the prolonged hostilities, seeking divine intervention to quell the turmoil that continues to impact global security.

During a courtesy visit by the Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria, Amb. Hidayet Bayraktar at his Palace in Benin City, Edo State, Oba Ewuare II emphasized the importance of ending the conflict for the greater good of peace and development worldwide.

“We are hoping and praying that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine ends soon for the benefit of global peace and prosperity. We hope it does not get worse.

We also know about the involvement your President had in the conflict between the Russian State and Ukraine. We thank you on behalf of the people of Nigeria and Africa for sending much-needed grains to the continent,” Oba Ewuare stated.

He commended President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Turkey for facilitating a humanitarian corridor to provide aid services in the war-torn regions.

The Oba of Benin conveyed optimism that the war will subside, urging for a swift resolution to the crisis amidst the prevailing uncertainty and hope for stability.

In response, the Turkish Ambassador highlighted the economic implications of the visit, focusing on exploring potential opportunities for collaboration between Turkey and Nigeria. The fact-finding mission aimed to strengthen economic ties and pave the way for future engagements that would benefit both nations.

Amb. Hidayet Bayraktar expressed satisfaction with the meeting and anticipated further interactions to enhance economic cooperation between Turkey and Nigeria, underscoring the importance of fostering strong bilateral relations for mutual growth and prosperity.
