Oba of Benin Sends Royal Birthday Gift to Governor Okpebholo, Reaffirms Palace-Government Bond

In a gesture rich with tradition and symbolism, the revered Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, has extended royal birthday wishes to Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, through the presentation of a special gift.

The presentation took place at the Governor’s Office in Benin City and was delivered by the Oba’s eldest daughter, Princess (Mrs) Iku Aimiuwu Ewuare, accompanied by Mr. Frank Irabor, Secretary to the Benin Traditional Council.

The visit was a formal delegation sent by the monarch to honor the governor’s recent birthday.

Speaking on behalf of the Oba, Irabor conveyed the monarch’s instructions: “His Majesty has sent us to present a royal gift to Your Excellency in celebration of your birthday. Princess Iku Aimiuwu is here to fulfill that noble task.”

Princess Aimiuwu, in her brief remarks, extended her father’s blessings and warm wishes.

“I am honored to be here on behalf of my father to present this gift. Happy birthday once again. May you enjoy long life and prosperity,” she said.

Governor Okpebholo, visibly moved by the gesture, expressed deep appreciation for the recognition.

“I am truly humbled. To receive a gift from the Oba of Benin is a moment of great honor,” he said. Reflecting on the significance, he added, “As the saying goes, when you wash your hands well, you dine with elders. This is a moment I will not take for granted.”

He reaffirmed his loyalty to the Benin throne and his commitment to the development of Edo State.

“Please tell His Majesty that we remain his children. His prayers are working—not just for me, but for the entire state. We will continue to serve with integrity and dedication.”

The exchange underscores the enduring relationship between the Benin monarchy and the state government, symbolizing unity, mutual respect, and shared purpose in advancing the welfare of Edo people.
