Oba of Benin Urges New Commissioner of Police to Prioritize Crime Prevention

The Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, has called on the newly appointed Commissioner of Police (CP) for Edo State, Betty Otimenyin, to prioritize crime fighting and prevention in her new role.

This appeal was made during Otimenyin’s visit to the Oba on Friday, where she sought his royal blessing for her tenure.

Ewuare II expressed confidence in Otimenyin’s capabilities, assuring her of the palace’s full support. He commended her ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in the state, stating, “The Palace is very pleased with you. We are seeing what you are doing over there. May God and our ancestors empower you to do more.”

In her remarks, Otimenyin referred to her deployment as a homecoming and committed to elevating policing standards in Edo State. She was accompanied by the Edo Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), DCP Ben Abang, along with other senior officers.

Before her current assignment, Otimenyin served as the Commissioner of Police for Administration at the Force Intelligence Department (FID) in Abuja, and held various positions in Benin, including DPO at Aideyan Police Station and Oba Market Police Division.
