Obaseki charges 10 Edo Recipients of NSDP Scholarships to Excel

Ten Edo State indigenes  who received scholarships from the Nigerian Seafarers Development Program (NSDP) have been commended by Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, who has urged them to succeed.

On Friday, September 2, 2022, at a reception held at Government House, Benin City, the Governor delivered the charge.

“I want to start by extending my appreciation and the government of Edo State’s appreciation to Engineer Greg Ogbeifun, the Chairman of the Benin River Port (BRP) project, for his extremely rare demonstration of patriotism and support for Edo State and this government,” stated Obaseki.

He continued, “Engr. Ogbeifun is a bright example of the Edo people, the sons and daughters who have succeeded in their personal and professional endeavors and still yearn to return and make a positive contribution to their community.

“You are a shining example; without your interest in, dedication to, and commitment to the State and these young people, today’s event would not have been possible.”

“Projects in themselves do not make themselves. Therefore, in order for Edo State to engage in the global economy and for the BRP to succeed, you would need competent individuals to manage that economy and propel the maritime industry that the state hopes to establish.

“We are proud of you” What has brought you this far is the fact that you have made an investment in yourself. In the tests and exams you took, as well as the West African Examination Council Examination (WAEC), you performed well.” Obaseki remarked, addressing the young scholars.

“I’m especially happy that six of the ten of you are female. You have therefore begun to break through the barrier, and I am confident that everyone of you will complete your studies. It is now our duty to develop an economy that will employ you once you graduate.

“The government is happy about this. For this scholarship, the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and the federal government have our sincere gratitude. Each of them will receive $5,000 from the state government.

“It is your duty to perform well, bring honor to our state, and create opportunities for others to follow in your footsteps,” the governor said.

“I present to you 10 Edo State scholars who have been awarded with full scholarships by the federal government through the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA),” said Engr. Greg Ogbeifun, Chairman of the Benin River Port (BRP) Project.

“I had the honor of being involved in the initial stages of your initial government when you were considering opening Edo State to the sea, during the first few months of your tenure. I had no idea that such zeal would result in what we are going through now.” he added.
