Obaseki Commends Peaceful Conduct in Elections, says Result of Presidential Election Unacceptable

In the wake of the Presidential and National Assembly elections in Edo State, Governor Godwin Obaseki has lauded the people of Edo for their peaceful and orderly behavior. However, he expressed his dissatisfaction with the election outcome, deeming it unacceptable.

Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Hon. Chris Nehikhare, relayed the governor’s message, urging Edo citizens to remain calm and refrain from actions that could compromise security or damage property.

In a statement, Nehikhare quoted Governor Obaseki saying, “The Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Mr. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki, thanks the good people of Edo State for the peaceful and orderly conduct during the general elections held on February 25. The result of the election is unacceptable to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and we will duly seek redress through legal means, as outlined in the Nigerian constitution, to ensure that wrongs perpetuated in the electoral process are righted.”

Acknowledging the discontent among the party and the people, Nehikhare emphasized the importance of maintaining calm and restraint. He warned against actions that could exacerbate the situation, stating, “We must not take any action which will undermine our security and lead to the destruction of property.”

As responsible citizens, Governor Obaseki called for collective efforts towards the development of the state. He expressed gratitude for the sustained support and concluded, “We thank you for your sustained support, as always. God bless Edo State. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
