The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has trained and deployed over 3,000 new teachers under the Edo Supporting Teachers to Achieve Results (EdoSTAR) Fellows Programme into the basic education schools across the state.
The training and deployment are in line with the government’s plan to improve learning outcomes, digitalise education, and expand the Edo Basic Education Sector Transformation (EdoBEST) programme to junior secondary schools in the state.
Mrs. Eyita Ozavize Salami, the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Universal Education Board, stated that the deployment came after junior secondary school teachers underwent a rigorous six-week training program aimed at implementing the EdoBEST program in the classrooms.
Salami announced that a graduation ceremony has been planned for Friday, March 11, 2022, to commemorate the completion of these training sessions and the start of the EdoBEST teaching methodology in 379 new schools throughout the state. He also added that this ceremony will officially initiate the state’s disarticulation of junior secondary schools.
“Over the past six weeks, the Edo State Universal Education Board has trained 2,650 teachers, including Progressive Primary School teachers, Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers, and successful candidates for the EdoSTAR Fellowship,” said the head of SUBEB.
“The addition of 231 junior secondary schools and 148 remote, difficult-to-reach, and riverine primary schools to the EdoBEST program marks another significant achievement in the basic education sector transformation reform program launched by this administration in 2018.”
Furthermore, as part of the EdoSTAR fellowship program, 3,000 new teachers have been assigned to each of our 18 local government areas’ basic education schools. (1,200 of these fellows were part of the just concluded training).”
She went on, “His Excellency, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, the Executive Governor, has approved a graduation ceremony to mark the conclusion of these trainings and the start of the EdoBEST methodology of teaching in 379 new schools across the state. It will take place at the tennis hard court, Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, at 12 p.m. on Friday, March 11, 2022. This event will formally announce that Edo State’s JSS disarticulation has begun.”
