Obaseki hails Osakue as first Nigerian to lead African advocacy forum

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has applauded rights activist and Executive Director, Foundation for Good Governance and Social Change, Comrade Austin Osakue on his election as President of the African Forum for Advocacy and Citizens Engagement (AFACE).

In a statement, Obaseki said Osakue’s victory was well-deserved, expressing trust in his skill and competence to perform on the new role.

Obaseki said, “I warmly congratulate prominent rights activist and Executive Director, Foundation for Good Governance and Social Change, Comrade Austin Osakue on his election as President of the African Forum for Advocacy and Citizens Engagement (AFACE).

“At the fiercely contested election held in Kigali, Rwanda, Osakue garnered 156 votes to beat four other candidates from Kenya, Ghana, Morocco and Malawi, becoming the first Nigerian to be elected as president of the 32-member body.”

The governor added, “A fine democrat and staunch advocate of good governance, Osakue has continued to excel, promoting courses to strengthen democracy, foster accountability and transparency in governance and establish development and equal opportunity for all.

“This new achievement confirms your brilliance, dedication and remarkable zeal to influence humanity and make significant change in society. I am confident in your skill and competence to faithfully deliver on your new role. Accept my most genuine congratulations.”
