Obaseki Inaugurates 18-man Committee to Implement Anti-grazing Law

The Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has taken a significant step towards addressing the issue of cattle and livestock control in the state. On Tuesday, he established an 18-member committee tasked with enforcing the state’s anti-grazing law.

The committee was inaugurated at the Executive Council Chambers in the Government House, located in Benin City. The Governor urged the newly formed committee to promptly commence work, formulating and executing strategies to put an end to unrestricted grazing and the ongoing conflict between farmers and herders in the state.

Governor Obaseki reminded everyone that, “As you will recall, sometime last year, the state government suggested a bill to the Edo State House of Assembly and the House passed into law the anti-grazing bill. One of the provisions of the law passed by the House of Assembly is to inaugurate this Committee which will see to the implementation of this law.”

He further stated that the committee members would be provided with copies of the law. He expressed his hope that the committee would “immediately, after this ceremony, swings into action with its implementation plans and strategies required to drastically reduce the effect of farmers-herders’ clash and reduce the incident of free grazing.”

The Committee’s Chairman, Lt. Col. Osazuwa Erhabor (Rtd.), expressed his gratitude to the Governor for the trust placed in the committee. He assured both the Governor and the people of Edo that the committee would carry out its responsibilities diligently.
