According to him, “For the past 50 years, our medical school has produced doctors. Therefore, there is the necessary workforce in this setting.

“What is lacking are top-notch institutions equipped with the necessary tools to provide patient care.

Thus, we are renovating this building, updating its technology, and furnishing it with cutting-edge machinery found nowhere else in the world.”

On the affordability of healthcare in the facility following the renovation, he pointed out that locals would need to be enrolled in the Edo Health Insurance Scheme (EdoHIS) in order to comfortably access the services of the new Stella Obasanjo Hospital due to the high cost of excellent healthcare services.

“To avoid you having to pay cash out of pocket, we have set up the financing arrangement under the Edo State Health Insurance Scheme.

“You can come in here with your card and get care as long as you have subscribed to our health insurance.” he stated.

Prof. Obehi Akoria, the State Commissioner for Health, praised the initiative and mentioned a few of the new amenities. She mentioned that the institution will be able to offer upscale out-patient care for a variety of ailments as a result of the improvement.

She said: “A facility where you are covered by insurance is what you are anticipating. Prenatal, obstetric, and gynecological treatment are available.

“Our newly constructed outpatient department will offer top-notch specialized services in ENT, neurology, endocrinology, dentistry, physical therapy, and many more fields. I am aware of no other physiotherapy facilities in the southern region of this country save this one.”

She continued by explaining that in order to enhance patient monitoring and treatment quality, the inpatient department has also been renovated to replace the open rooms typical of public hospitals with more private en suite wards.

“You can receive care in internal medicine, which includes services in cardiology, neurology, endocrinology, nephrology, prenatal care, urology, and ophthalmology, as well as dental and ear, nose, and throat care.

“In addition, a brand-new set of labs covering hematology, clinical chemistry, microbiology, anatomic pathology, and everything else are being installed here.

“Aside from that, we want to create an administrative block that wasn’t there previously.” Akoria noted.
