Obaseki pledges to Rebuild Old Roads to Connect Communities
The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has made a bold commitment to build a comprehensive network of roads throughout the state. This initiative aims to link communities and stimulate economic growth and development.
During a meeting with stakeholders in the Edo Central Senatorial District, the governor expressed his concerns about the deteriorating state of federal roads within Edo State.
Governor Obaseki reassured the public that, once the rainy season has passed, his administration will prioritize the construction of local roads. This move is intended to ease the difficulties experienced by residents and commuters. He empathized with the community’s struggles and reaffirmed his dedication to tackling the challenges of the state’s road infrastructure.
In his address, Obaseki highlighted the unique position of Edo State, boasting an extensive network of interconnected federal roads. He proudly stated, “Edo is blessed because of its long stretch of interconnection of federal roads, and I don’t think that there is any state in the country that has interconnected federal roads like Edo State.”
The governor also addressed the Federal Government’s limitations in maintaining and managing their roads. He stated, “What we are seeing in the roads in Edo State today is an indication of what is happening with our Federal Government. It’s telling on us and shows that the Federal Government doesn’t seem to have the capacity to repair, maintain, and manage its own roads. So, our choice is to go back to our own local roads, create new ones, and see how to connect our state since they say they will not allow us to touch their roads.”
Obaseki called for patience from the stakeholders, assuring them that with the arrival of the dry season, contractors would be mobilized, funding would be secured, and construction would commence on the interconnecting roads throughout the state.
He concluded by emphasizing the importance of rebuilding old roads that were used before 1967 and 1973, connecting villages and communities to stimulate development at the local level.
