Obaseki promises Bendel Insurance FC New Stadium, Hostels, other Facilities

The Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has pledged to construct a permanent stadium, modern hostels, and other world-class amenities for Bendel Insurance Football Club. This promise comes in recognition of their remarkable achievement as the crowned champions of the 2022 Nigerian National League.

During a reception at the Government House in Benin City, held on November 24, 2022, Governor Obaseki met with the victorious team, officials, and the ardent supporters’ club. He expressed his utmost admiration for their triumph and assured them of his administration’s unwavering commitment to the club’s growth and well-being.

He said, “You’ve fulfilled your portion. You have, at least, demonstrated that Bendel Insurance is returning to its rightful place. But we haven’t arrived yet. We have much work ahead of us.

“However, we as the government must continue to support and encourage you because you have done your own.”

Governor Obaseki went on to share his vision of a brand-new camp that will elevate Bendel Insurance to its rightful position. He announced plans for the construction of a permanent stadium, state-of-the-art hostels, and additional facilities that will enhance the club’s training and accommodation standards.

Assuring urgency, he vowed to work closely with the Deputy Governor to initiate these projects immediately following the passage of the budget.

With a keen eye on the future sustainability of the club, Governor Obaseki stressed the importance of securing sponsorships. Recognizing the limitations of relying solely on government support, he emphasized the need to attract private sector investments to propel Bendel Insurance to greater heights.

The governor articulated his aspiration to showcase the team’s talent to the world, allowing businesses and corporate entities to witness their prowess and subsequently invest in the club.

In alignment with the governor’s views, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders involved in Bendel Insurance’s triumphant journey. He noted, “Having a strong, formidable team that will also attract private sector investment is more important than just winning; it’s the only way we can have sustainability.”
