This distinguished award acknowledges his unwavering commitment to improving the lives of Edo people and propelling the state towards sustainable growth and development.
At the award ceremony in Lagos, Governor Obaseki expressed his gratitude, pledging to sustain the remarkable progress across various sectors of the state’s economy. He acknowledged the honor as a call to do more for the people, igniting a renewed energy to strive for excellence.

Joined by his wife, Betsy, and notable dignitaries, Governor Obaseki emphasized the importance of good governance, stressing the need for fairness and doing the right thing. He reflected on the sacrifices made during his political career, reaffirming his commitment to providing real leadership and governance.
Governor Obaseki said, “This honor and prize are significant because I am being recognized as a leader in a system that some have described as failing. The award puts enormous responsibilities on us to ensure that the system does not fail.”
He appreciated the recognition, pledging to take up the challenge and strive for more. “The reward of hard work is more work. The reward for responsibility is more responsibility. I will take up that challenge, thanks to you all who made it possible.”
Prof. Jubril Aminu, Chairman of the Advisory Board of PPRAC, highlighted the Zik Prize’s significance as a reference point for honoring leaders on the continent. HRM Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, Obi of Onitsha, emphasized the purpose of the award as promoting and recognizing leadership in public life, celebrating the legacy of the late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe.
