Obaseki Sets Up 20-Member Transition Committee for Seamless Handover

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Goodwin Obaseki has inaugurated a transition committee, chaired by former Finance Commissioner, Joseph Eboigbe, to ensure a smooth transition of power and knowledge to the next administration.

The committee, comprising 20 members, was tasked with documenting the achievements of the current administration and creating a comprehensive data room for easy access to information.

Governor Obaseki emphasized the importance of this process, stating, “Today, on the 11th of July, 2024, we mark exactly four months until I hand over the reins of government to the next elected governor of Edo State. As global best practice, we are assembling a transition team to meticulously record our administration’s accomplishments.

“The team will search for, gather, and arrange in a data room all documents and other relevant materials pertaining to policy decisions made by this administration in all areas of governance and governance over the previous eight years. These materials have, in my opinion, almost all been digitalized.

“All documents pertaining to every activity, contract, EXCO decision, presentation, and policy paper in every area would be retrieved, documented, and chronicled in a proper digital and regular data room, which would serve as institutional memory for the next and subsequent administrations.”

The committee’s responsibilities include compiling reports on various aspects of government, providing recommendations for the next administration, and creating a digital and physical repository of documents and decisions made during the current administration.

The governor urged the committee to complete the report by October 30, 2024, to facilitate a seamless transition on November 11, 2024.

Committee Chairman, Joseph Eboigbe, assured the governor of their commitment to delivering the report within the stipulated timeline.
