Edo Governor Vows Loyalty to PDP: “I Won’t Defect, We Will Always Win”

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has made it clear at an expanded caucus meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that he has no intention of defecting from the party, urging those who are uncomfortable with his leadership to leave instead.

Assuring party members of continued victories in elections, the governor emphasized that his position as the leader of the party in the state is non-negotiable.

During the meeting, Obaseki expressed his faith in the PDP’s ability to win elections and asserted that the forthcoming local government election will set the stage for next year’s national and legislative elections. He called for unity among party members and urged them to focus on the elections ahead.

Refuting claims of division within the Edo PDP, Obaseki stated that the party had successfully harmonized in the state, ensuring collaboration before making appointments at the ward level.

He revealed that PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, will visit the state in March and urged party leaders to bring along newly registered members to welcome him.

Highlighting the significance of dialogue and discussion in politics, Obaseki emphasized the need for collaboration and unity to move the party and the state forward.

He commended the ongoing e-registration exercise, which has seen over 539,000 members registered, emphasizing the party’s commitment to ensuring members’ active participation in the policy-making process.

The governor called on detractors sponsoring disunity to desist, reiterating that Edo State is resilient and battle-ready. He highlighted the state’s achievements and urged party members to maintain a winning spirit.

The meeting, attended by prominent party leaders, including the Deputy Governor, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, and several senators, celebrated the milestone of surpassing the 500,000 threshold for PDP e-registration in Edo State.
