Benin City, Edo State – Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo has made a strong commitment to elevate the Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS) into a leading media organization on the global stage. This pledge came during his recent inspection of various road construction projects across Benin City.
Accompanied by senior government officials, Governor Okpebholo visited the EBS facilities and several key road development sites, including the Upper Mission extension near Aduwawa junction, Obadan Junction along the Benin-Auchi Expressway, and Upper Ekenwan Road.
During an unplanned visit to the EBS headquarters, the Governor toured the station with Managing Director Suleiman Aledeh and other staff members. He acknowledged the significant challenges facing the broadcasting service, which include unreliable electricity, insufficient studio infrastructure, and poor access roads.
“I have witnessed the difficulties confronting the station firsthand. Issues like power outages and deteriorating roads are pressing concerns,” Governor Okpebholo stated. He proposed exploring alternative energy solutions, such as solar power or new generator systems, to ensure that EBS can operate continuously around the clock. Additionally, he indicated plans to renovate or rebuild the station’s aging facilities.
Emphasizing the need for high standards of professionalism among EBS staff, the Governor encouraged them to maintain impartiality and provide constructive criticism of his administration. “My role is to serve the people of Edo. I welcome your critiques if I falter,” he remarked.
In response, Suleiman Aledeh expressed optimism regarding the Governor’s commitment to resolving the station’s challenges, underscoring the necessity of keeping EBS competitive in the media landscape.
While inspecting the ongoing road projects, Governor Okpebholo reiterated his dedication to delivering tangible results before the onset of the rainy season. He praised the progress at the Obadan Junction project, expressing confidence that it would be completed in time for the Christmas holiday. “With ongoing oversight, we are achieving our goals. The contractor is performing admirably to ensure timely completion, and I am very pleased with both the quality and speed of the work being done,” he added.
Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed his administration’s focus on effective governance, aiming to ensure that the residents of Edo State reap the benefits of democratic progress.
