Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo on Wednesday enacted two pivotal bills into law. The first of these legislative measures extends the retirement age for Magistrates from 60 to 65 years. The second bill expands the membership of the Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission (EDSOGPADEC).
During the signing ceremony held in Benin City, Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to fortifying institutions that play a crucial role in the promotion of justice and the enhancement of economic development across the state.
He emphasized that the extension of the retirement age for Magistrates would contribute to greater judicial efficacy by allowing experienced professionals to serve in their roles for an extended timeframe.
Governor Okpebholo stated, “Retaining seasoned Magistrates with valuable experience for longer periods will undoubtedly enhance our judicial system.”
Furthermore, the Governor outlined that the expansion of EDSOGPADEC’s membership is designed to improve governance and ensure more effective representation within the commission.
“The expansion in the membership of EDSOGPADEC is expected to improve governance, representation, and operational efficiency, thereby fostering economic growth,” he added.
