Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo has officially launched 56 new Toyota Hiace buses, revitalizing the Edoline Transport Service, as part of his administration’s commitment to improving public transportation in the state.
The inauguration took place on Wednesday, as announced in a statement by Mr. Fred Itua, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor.
In addition to the buses, Governor Okpebholo also unveiled 38 new Toyota Hilux vans and 16 Prado Jeeps designated for security agencies in Edo State. This initiative aims to bolster the state’s efforts in combating crime and enhancing public safety.
Former Edo Governor, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, attended the event and praised Okpebholo for his accomplishments in just 100 days in office.
Oshiomhole noted, “You have achieved what I could not accomplish as governor during my time,” commending Okpebholo’s courage and determination in reviving the state-owned transport service.
Highlighting the importance of mobility in law enforcement, Oshiomhole remarked, “Criminals are mobile, and security agencies charged with fighting crimes must be mobile too to match them.”
He expressed his satisfaction with the governor’s actions, stating, “I am happy that you speak less and do more for Edo people.”
The new security vehicles are equipped with communication gadgets, ensuring that law enforcement agencies have the necessary tools to effectively tackle crime. Commissioner of Police Betty Otimenyin also expressed gratitude, stating, “We thank the governor for matching words with actions by providing security agencies with vehicles, especially now that we are embarking on Operation Rescue at the instance of the state government.”
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Deputy Governor Mr. Dennis Idahosa, Minister of Works Dave Umahi, Secretary to the State Government Musa Ikhilor, and Chief of Staff Gani Audu, among others.
