Otaru of Auchi commends Obaseki on revival of 6000mt Edo Fertilizer factory

Alhaji Aliru Momoh Ikelebe III, the esteemed Otaru of Auchi Kingdom, has expressed his appreciation to Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, for the significant revitalization of the Edo Fertilizer and Chemical Company Limited. This rejuvenation has notably spurred economic growth within the region.

The commendation was articulated during the Otaru’s formal visit to the Governor at the Government House in Benin City, the heart of Edo State.

Originally established in the early 2000s, the fertilizer plant had fallen into disuse over time. However, under the auspices of Governor Obaseki’s administration, the facility has experienced a renaissance through a strategic partnership with WACOT Limited, as outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

The operational revival of the plant is anticipated to generate approximately 500 direct employment opportunities, alongside numerous indirect jobs, thereby bolstering the community’s economy.

In recognition of Governor Obaseki’s efforts towards statewide developmental progress, the Otaru of Auchi has extolled the governor’s initiative in resurrecting the Auchi fertilizer factory, which now stands as a significant source of employment for the state’s populace.

He said, “Obaseki brought jobs to Auchi by revitalizing a fertilizer factory that had been shuttered for many years, and he did this before taking office as governor of Edo State. I am here to thank him for keeping the fertilizer factory operational and for allowing employees to work shifts within the company.”

According to the governor, in order to alleviate commuter suffering and promote greater economic activity in the region, his administration will continue to work with the federal government to facilitate the reconstruction of the Benin/Auchi Road.

“We have promised him that we will keep working with the federal government to build the Benin/Auchi Road because it is the backbone of the state’s economy,” he stated. Should it fail, it will have a major impact on both our people and the state economy.

“I received a letter from the Minister of Works asking the Edo State Government to compensate for lands in certain areas where they need to complete their alignment, demonstrating how proactive they have been on the matter. We will be working on it for a few weeks to make sure they have access to everything they need to build that road.”
