In a significant development for the journalism community in Edo State, Patrick Ese Ochoga has been elected as the new chairman of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
Ochoga, a distinguished journalist with over 15 years of experience in media and public relations, currently serves as the Edo State correspondent for Leadership Newspaper. His track record includes numerous accolades, notably the Edo Icon Award in 2023, highlighting his commitment to excellence and professionalism in journalism.
Ochoga’s credentials extend beyond his journalistic achievements; he played a pivotal role in coordinating media activities for the Nigeria Conference of Speakers Forum in Canada in 2022, earning him international recognition. He is a graduate of the University of Jos and holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism from the University of Maiduguri. Additionally, Ochoga is an entrepreneur and farmer, reflecting his diverse interests and capabilities outside the realm of media.
In his inaugural speech following the election, Ochoga expressed heartfelt gratitude to his colleagues for their support and trust. “I stand before you today filled with immense gratitude and humility. Emerging as your chairman is not just a personal achievement, but a collective victory, and I am deeply honored,” he stated.
He emphasized his commitment to fostering a stronger and more progressive chapel, underscoring the necessity of unity and collaboration among members.
“As your chairman, I promise to fight for all of us for a better and more progressive chapel. I’ll stand up for our values and work across the aisle to get things done. We face big challenges, but I’ve never been more optimistic that together we can surmount any obstacle about the future of our chapel. Our diversity is our strength. Our shared hopes and dreams unite us,” he added.
Ochoga’s election heralds a new era for the Edo State Correspondents Chapel, where he aims to enhance professionalism, uphold integrity, and empower journalists throughout the region.
His leadership is anticipated to bring about positive changes and greater cohesion within the journalism community in Edo State.
