Portable Water for Edo North: Philip Shaibu Assures Of Government’s Plan to Reactivate Ojirami Dam

Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu,has restated government’s commitment towards providing portable water for the people of Edo North with the reactivation of Ojirami Dam.

The Deputy Governor gave the assurance, when he granted audience to a delegation of Akoko Edo Forum, at the government house, Benin City.

According to Shaibu, “government is currently working on a sustainable policy, in collaboration with the Federal Government to reactivate the Ojirami Dam, for the provision of portable water to the people of Edo North”.

“Government is not going to play politics with the issue of the dam, by just reactivating it, but will ensure a sustainable policy for the dam to supply water to the entire Edo North”.

He also pledged government’s resolve to look into the issues of multi-campuses of tertiary institutions in the State, to ensure Akoko Edo is fully captured.

“As a Government, the present administration will continue to pursue policies and programs that will be sustainable for the overall benefit of all Edo people”.

Speaking earlier, Leader of the delegation and President, Akoko Edo Forum, Dr.Charles Jagun, expressed the Forum’s reservations over the near abandonment and non-operation of the Ojirami Dam.

He stated that the dam has the capacity to provide water for both domestic and for agricultural purposes for the entire Akoko Edo People and beyond.

Jagun also complained of the constant migration of youths from the area to urban areas due to lack of jobs in the locality.

Present at the meeting were; Edo State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Barr. Donald Okogbe, Commissioner for Arts, Culture, Tourism and Diaspora Affairs, Hon Bamidele Obaitan, Permanent Secretary Office of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Igbinobaro Bose Joy, Mrs Mary Opii, Secretary of the AEF, Mr PK Moses amongst others.
