Poultry Industry: Edo Govt Inks Historic Deal with Heifer International, Amo Farm Sieberer Hatchery Limited

In a groundbreaking move, the Edo State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with two global leaders, Heifer International and Amo Farm Sieberer Hatchery Limited, to transform the poultry value chain in the state.
This strategic partnership aims to boost agricultural production, meet growing local and international demands, and position Edo State as a frontrunner in poultry production.

Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Stephen Idehenre, expressed gratitude to the partners, highlighting the initiative’s potential to address offtake challenges faced by poultry farmers. “This MoU will bring solutions to the longstanding issues plaguing our poultry farmers, ensuring a sustainable and thriving agricultural sector.”
The partnership is expected to yield significant results, including the commissioning of a groundbreaking project with Amo Farms by mid-December and the completion of the College of Agriculture, Iguoriakhi, which will further bolster the state’s agricultural efforts.
Director of Heifer Nigeria, Mr. Rufus Idris, praised the collaboration, citing the tripartite partnership’s potential to increase poultry production, offset the national deficit, and empower young people to join the agriculture sector. “This MoU will lead to an increase in farming clusters, smallholder farmers, and the establishment of a livestock feed production plant, ultimately lifting farmers out of poverty by 2025.”
Dr. Amoola Oduntan of Amo Farms commended the Edo State First Lady, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, for embracing the Noiler Project and highlighted the forthcoming 10,000-capacity processing plant, which will meet growing demands for poultry meat.
The Permanent Secretary, Mr. Peter Aikhuomoghogbe, expressed appreciation to all parties involved, acknowledging the significance of this partnership in driving growth and sustainability in the poultry industry.
