In a surprising revelation at the 2023 Alaghodaro Summit, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the senator representing Edo North Senatorial District and former Governor of Edo State, declared that Governor Godwin Obaseki remains his friend, despite their contrasting political and party affiliations.
The Alaghodaro Summit, themed “The Edo Story: Creating Shared Opportunities into the Future,” took place in the vibrant city of Benin City, Edo State between November 8 and 12, 2023. This annual event, organized by the Edo State Government in collaboration with the private sector, commemorates Governor Godwin Obaseki’s tenure in office and showcases the remarkable progress in transforming the state into an investment haven.
Expressing his gratitude to Obaseki for hosting the summit and extending an invitation, Oshiomhole emphasized the importance of treating each other with love and care, even when disagreements arise. He stressed that friendship does not mean the absence of differing opinions, but rather the ability to navigate those differences while maintaining respect and camaraderie.
Oshiomhole emphasized, “People don’t need leaders who join them in lamenting; they need leaders who take bold steps to solve problems.” He further highlighted the significance of political leaders speaking a language that unifies their followers and expressed his high regard for the Office of the Governor, regardless of party affiliation.
Acknowledging that they belong to different political parties, Oshiomhole commended the collective commitment of all the civilian governors in attendance to the welfare of the people of Edo State. He emphasized the importance of political differences not escalating into war, and reiterated his friendship with Obaseki, stating that their shared connection extends beyond politics.
Obaseki, in his address at the summit, showcased his government’s accomplishments in the past seven years, notably focusing on institutional reforms, economic revolution, social welfare, infrastructure development, environmental sustainability, and arts and culture. The governor emphasized the positive impact of these bold reforms and how they have set the stage for sustainable growth and development in Edo State.
Notable personalities present at the event included former governors of the state, John Odigie-Oyegun and Lucky Igbinedion, both of whom commended Governor Obaseki for his visionary leadership and transformative achievements, positioning the state for greatness.
