Rescue Edo Movement Calls for Next Edo State Governor to Possess the 3 ‘Cs’: Character, Competence, and Capacity

In a media briefing held in Abuja, Hon Andrew Adaze Emwanta, former Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation and Convener of the Rescue Edo Movement (REM), emphasized that the next Governor of Edo State must prioritize the three essential qualities: character, competence, and capacity.

He urged political parties to prioritize these qualities when choosing their candidates, as Edo State has suffered from politicians who exploit primordial sentiments to gain political power but fail to deliver on performance.

Emwanta highlighted that unlike other states, Edo State has had governors from all three Senatorial Zones in its history. As a result, he argued that zoning to a specific region should not be the primary concern.

He stated, “The seat of Government in our dear State is located at Osadebe Avenue in GRA Benin City. The breakdown of how the governorship position has moved among the three major ethnic groups in the State supports this: Edo Central has had Prof. Ambrose Alli; Edo South has had Dr Samuel Ogbemudia, Dr John Odigie Oyegun, Chief Lucky Igbinedion, and Mr. Godwin Obaseki; Edo North has had Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.”

Emwanta emphasized the need to prioritize competence, capacity, and pedigree in the decision-making process for the 2024 elections. He called upon individuals inspired by goodwill and motivated by a sense of responsibility to stand up and be counted for the redemption of Edo State.

Drawing upon the goals of the Rescue Edo Movement, he stated, “We will search for a person who has what it takes to lift Edo State from its present state of arrested development. We are determined to break free from the constraints of the past and reclaim our State.”
