Shaibu hails Comedian, Bovi Ugboma as he commissions block of classrooms

In a stirring call to action, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, has urged former students to actively contribute to the betterment of their former schools.

The appeal came as he inaugurated a refurbished 20-classroom block at the University of Benin Staff School in Benin City, a generous donation from school alumnus and renowned comedian, Bovi Ugboma.

Deputy Governor Shaibu praised Ugboma for his thoughtful act of giving back to the institution that shaped his early years. The newly renovated building, complete with modern toilet facilities, a library, and staff rooms, stands as a testament to Ugboma’s commitment to his roots.

Highlighting the uniqueness of Ugboma’s contribution, Shaibu expressed that such acts of kindness set a precedent for other alumni to follow. “Witnessing an individual personally fund a structure for their alma mater is unprecedented and sets a new standard for us all,” he remarked.

Shaibu shared that the comedian’s gesture has personally inspired him to support his own former schools in Kaduna State. He emphasized that no contribution is too small when it comes to enriching the lives of others—a noble deed that resonates with the human spirit.

The Deputy Governor called for collective efforts to elevate the state’s educational standards, suggesting that individual contributions can significantly aid the government in focusing on other important projects.

In her address, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Prof. Lillian Salami, expressed gratitude towards the state government for fostering an environment that encourages community involvement in state development.

The school’s Head Mistress, Mrs. Mercy Edokpolor, highlighted Ugboma’s long-standing connection with the school, having been a student there from 1979 to 1990. She described him as a benevolent individual whose donation will greatly benefit the school community.

Ugboma himself shared that the school laid the foundation for his successful career, and he hopes the new facilities will be well-utilized and maintained, ensuring they serve their intended purpose for years to come.
