The Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) is actively monitoring the progress of school reconstruction projects across the state, aiming to upgrade infrastructure and enhance the learning environment for students. Led by Chairman Barr. (Mrs.) Onomen Briggs, a delegation recently concluded a tour of several schools in the Edo South Senatorial District to assess the ongoing works.
The delegation, which included Edo South Board member Mrs. Angela Okpamen, Dr. Osahon Aibangbee, and Engr. Martins, visited Ebo Primary School, Ore-Oghene Primary School, Evbareke Junior Secondary School, Useh Junior Secondary School, and Okhokhugbo Primary School.
The tour highlighted both progress and challenges. At Ore-Oghene Primary School, Headmistress Helen Ogbemudia Ese voiced concerns about the dilapidated condition of the existing buildings and its impact on students.
“The deteriorating condition of the school buildings [has an] adverse effect on pupils’ well-being,” she stated. In response, Barr. Briggs assured her that the reconstruction would be expedited.
Overall, Mrs. Briggs expressed satisfaction with the progress observed. “The projects would be completed in couple of weeks in order to significantly improve on the learning environment,” she stated.
However, she emphasized the critical need for community involvement in safeguarding the newly renovated facilities.
“Parents, teachers, students, and local residents must take ownership of the facilities to ensure that they are well-protected and properly maintained,” she urged, highlighting the importance of community security to prevent vandalism.
The SUBEB Chairman revealed that more than 100 schools across Edo State’s three senatorial districts are currently undergoing renovations and reconstruction.
“Over a hundred schools across the three senatorial districts are undergoing renovations and reconstruction, where necessary,” she confirmed.
As part of this comprehensive initiative, she added that the schools would also be equipped with essential furnishings and amenities designed to foster a safe and conducive learning atmosphere.
Barr. Briggs reaffirmed the Edo State Government’s dedication to revitalizing education through strategic infrastructure investments. She concluded by calling for collaborative support from all stakeholders.
“A collective approach is key to transforming public education and securing a brighter future for children resident in the State,” she stated, underscoring the importance of a unified effort in improving public education in Edo State.
