Suspected Herdsmen abduct Scores from Edo Train Station, Many Injured

The Edo Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Chidi Nwabuzor, on Saturday night made a press statement on Saturday night about passengers waiting to board a train from Igueben, Edo State to Warri, Delta State, who were abducted by gunmen suspected to be herdsmen.

According to the statement, the suspected herdsmen, who were armed with AK-47 rifles, invaded the train station and shot sporadically into the air before herding an unspecified number of intending travelers into the bush.

In the process, some of the passengers, the command added, sustained bullet wounds, just as it assured that bush combing and rescue operations had begun to rescue those that were kidnapped.

“This is to notify the gentlemen of the press that at approximately 1600 hours today, January 7, 2023, an unknown number of herdsmen armed with AK-47 rifles attacked the Igueben, Edo State, train station and abducted an unknown number of passengers who were awaiting the train to Warri.

“Some people suffered bullet wounds from the kidnappers who shot into the air periodically before robbing some passengers. To safeguard the remaining passengers’ lives and belongings, the Area Commander Irrua, DPO Igueben Division, and men have visited the crime scene alongside Edo State Security Network members, local vigilantes, and hunters.”

“In an attempt to free the victims and apprehend the abductors who are on the run, Bush Combing operations have started. “More updates will be shared,” the PPRO said.
