We are Not Owing Ambrose Alli University Staff, says Edo Govt

The Edo State Government declared that it owes the employees of the state-owned Ambrose Alli University (AAU) nothing, pointing out that all entitlements and arrears owed to the staff of the establishment have been paid in full.

This was revealed by Christopher Nehikhare, the Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, during a press conference in Benin City, the state capital.

According to Nehikhare, the university, which enrolls more than 33,000 students, has been operating normally despite the Academic Staff Union of Universities’ (ASUU) current strike.

“The Edo State Government established an intervention team more than a year ago to examine the institution’s management and improve it,” he stated.

The university incurred debt, lecturers were underpaid, and students were not receiving value for their tuition fees. The quality of education was questionable.

“As of August 2022, lecturers at AAU have received their full salary. This is a significant accomplishment for a school with such high salary debt. With no deductions made since December 2021, all of their entitlements have been paid; only gross salaries have been paid since then.

“The University has given locals employment opportunities, and other locals have jobs nearby and are paid as well.”

“To guarantee lectures continue even in the absence of in-person instruction, the school has put in place 40,000 learning management systems. The Edo State Government is putting a lot of effort into reforming the entire educational system because it values education highly. The Commissioner urged the Edo people to applaud the governor’s efforts in Edo State’s education system.
