Speaking to reporters in Benin City, Obaseki claimed that the state government was more transparent and accountable and that initiatives to raise people’s standards of living and bring about the state’s economic prosperity were being carried out.

As the governor stated, “Governance is being made simpler. We are bringing the people and the government closer together. We are making it more open, more transparent, and more accountable to the people.”

He went on, “You can see that we as a government are able to provide more services to the people and meet their needs. While we may not have finished all the roads, we have at least managed to build more, connect more communities, and designate routes that facilitate travel for people conducting business.

“Investments in other infrastructure, specifically fiber technology, have become possible. With more than 400 km of fiber circling the city, Benin City is among the most connected cities in Nigeria. With this infrastructure, all local governments in Edo State are connected by more than 1200 kilometers of fiber.”

“We have succeeded in enhancing the standard of government services and digitalizing governance. Reforms are still being implemented. Even though there is still more to be done, we have succeeded in creating a very intelligent state where residents can apply for land and services provided by government organizations,” Obaseki added.
