World Teachers’ Day: Obaseki Celebrates Teachers, Assures Continue Welfare

Mr. Godwin Obaseki, the governor of Edo State, has praised the state’s educators, pointing out that the government is utilizing technology to boost student achievement in the state by providing teachers with the necessary training and digital skills.

Obaseki made these remarks in honor of the 2022 World Teachers Day, an international celebration of teachers around the world that was started in 1994 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Assuring that the government will continue to prioritize teachers’ welfare and make sure they are fairly compensated for their role in shaping the minds of future state and national leaders, the governor praised the teachers for being the vanguard of the government’s reforms in the education sector.

Speaking on World Teachers Day, he said, “It is crucial to recognize the efforts of our teachers, who are vital to our administration’s efforts to restructure the education system and effectively contribute to the growth of our state and country.

“We recognize that education plays a critical role in fostering long-term social progress, and that sustained teacher investment is the only way to make this happen.

“The state’s teachers continue to receive crucial attention from our government, which makes sure they have the resources and expertise needed to develop the next wave of Edo leaders. We have also sustained investment in upskilling and providing teachers in our schools with modern tools and skills to improve teaching and learning in the state.

As part of our efforts to launch the implementation and onboarding of junior secondary schools into our innovative EdoBEST program, we recently provided digital pedagogy training to over 3,000 teachers, head teachers, and principals. In addition to this, the state offers teachers a number of other trainings aimed at maintaining the progress made in the field of education.”

He went on, “We are confident that our deliberate investment in teachers through professional development programs will lead to measurable improvement in the learning outcomes of all our students located in urban, rural, and even hard-to-reach areas of our state,” saying that the government is the biggest provider of basic education services in the state.
