Edo State Government Collaborates with Canada to Unlock Mining, Tech Potential
The Edo State Government is forging a strategic partnership with the Canadian Government to tap into the vast opportunities in the state’s mining and technology sectors, driving economic growth and development.
Governor Godwin Obaseki recently met with Canadian Deputy High Commissioner Teshome Nkrumah to explore ways to harness the state’s mineral resources and tech talent. The meeting, attended by stakeholders from both sectors, aimed to chart a path towards economic transformation.
Nkrumah highlighted Edo State’s rich mineral deposits, citing 18 explorable resources with immense economic potential. He emphasized Canada’s interest in supporting the state’s mining sector through policy frameworks and investment.
In the tech space, Nkrumah announced plans to partner with the Edo State Government to support startup growth through initiatives like the Techstarts Toronto Accelerator program. This program offers seed capital, networking opportunities, and resources to scale up startups.
Governor Obaseki expressed his commitment to sustaining reforms and policies that attract investors, focusing on human capital development, education, infrastructure, and capacity building. He highlighted the state’s emphasis on environmental conservation, particularly in forestry management, and sought Canadian expertise in this area.
Obaseki also showcased the state’s Tech Park, designed to support talent development and startups, and expressed interest in collaborating with Canada to raise funds for specialized mineral exploration and manufacturing.
