Court Orders Philip Shaibu’s Reinstatement as Edo Deputy Governor

Edo Deputy Governor Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu

Abuja’s Federal High Court delivered a landmark judgment on Wednesday, nullifying the impeachment of Edo State’s Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu. Justice James Omotosho’s ruling reinstated Shaibu to his former position, citing the Edo State House of Assembly’s failure to adhere to due process in their impeachment proceedings.

The court deemed the allegations against Shaibu legally untenable and not constituting gross misconduct. Furthermore, the appointment of a new Deputy Governor to replace Shaibu was declared null and void.

In a significant move, Justice Omotosho ordered the Inspector General of Police to provide Shaibu with the necessary security to enable him to resume his duties and serve out his term. This ruling marks a significant development in the political landscape of Edo State.
