Edo State Command of Nigeria Correctional Service Promotes 109 Officers

The Edo State Command of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCS) has announced the promotion of 109 officers to various ranks. The formal decoration ceremony took place on Thursday in Benin City, led by the State Controller of Corrections, Philomena Emehinola.

During the event, Emehinola, who herself was elevated to the rank of Assistant Controller General, emphasized the importance of dedication and discipline among the newly promoted officers. She described the promotions as a renewed call to duty, urging the officers to commit themselves to their responsibilities with greater diligence.

Highlighting the supportive stance of President Bola Tinubu towards the correctional service, Emehinola noted that 2024 has seen historic promotions for over 12,000 personnel across the country. “Since President Tinubu’s administration began, there has been a noticeable increase in support for the correctional service,” she stated. “Our promotions have been timely, and we anticipate that the next round in 2025 will occur even earlier.”

Emehinola encouraged all officers to work collectively to advance the service, stressing that individual efforts are crucial for achieving excellence. She also addressed those who were not included in the latest round of promotions, reassuring them that their time would come in due course, and encouraged them to remain prepared for future opportunities.

The promotion breakdown revealed that eight officers advanced to the rank of Deputy Controller, while another eight were promoted to Assistant Controllers. Additionally, 12 officers were elevated to Chief Superintendent, 10 to Superintendent, 32 to Deputy Superintendent, 22 to Assistant Superintendent I, and 13 to Assistant Superintendent III.

In response to the promotions, Deputy Controller Smart Omonua expressed gratitude on behalf of the recipients, acknowledging the leadership of the service and pledging that the officers would demonstrate their appreciation through dedicated service.
