Adeche Momoh University, a privately-owned institution of higher learning situated at Igarra in Akoko Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, is set to commence operations soon.
This was disclosed by the proprietor of the university Professor James Momoh at Igarra, on Friday.
Momoh who lead members of the National University Commission (NUC) on a tour of facilities in preparedness of the newly established University to commence operations said the school was in top gear in readiness for take-off.
“NUC like what they have seen, and they are surprise to see what they have seen. “This is the first in Akoko Edo. This is the first in our hometown. “The excellent, the innovative, the entrepreneurship, the creativity are all in the university. “This will be one of the best universities in the country,” Momoh said.
Momoh, a former chairman of Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), said that the idea to set up the university is to share knowledge to his people.
“It is intended that education should be shared, knowledge should be shared, and capacity should be shared. ” While I am on a journey for knowledge and to share knowledge, my people at Igarra need knowledge. “So all we have done is to say it can be done in the village.
“We can promote engineering, technology, computer science; all the emerging technology can be done here. “We are also saying we can promote the rule of law through proper training of legal luminaries, lawyers; barristers. “It is to this extent that the NUC is interested in a place here in Igarra,” Momoh said.
Momoh thanked the NUC team for the visit and promised to fix areas that were raised by the commission in their next visit. He also, thanked the people of the local government area for their support, which made it possible for the university to get to this level.
A member of the university board, Prof. Mariam Omenun Ibrahim said the university would offer a diverse range of programmes across four major colleges. She listed some of the programmes to be offered at the university as Art and Social Sciences, Engineering, Computer Science, Law, as well as Entrepreneurial studies.
Ibrahim said the university with a distinct curriculum would enable students to explore their passions and potential in an intellectually stimulating environment.
“This project came as a dream. The university is a big legacy for our children; children unborn will enjoy the legacy. “By the grace of almighty God, we are achieving our goal.
“In future, we intend to have a medical school, and the university will be recognized all over the world,” she said
