Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has declared open the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) 2025 Batch A, Stream I Orientation Course for corps members deployed to the state. The ceremony took place at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Okada, Ovia North-East Local Government Area (LGA).
Representing the Governor, the Functioning Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Humanitarian Affairs, Balogun Aiyegbeni, welcomed the corps members, highlighting Edo State’s rich cultural heritage, history, and abundant opportunities. He assured them of their security and safety, promising a conducive environment where they can thrive and contribute meaningfully during their service year.

Governor Okpebholo emphasized the state’s potential for personal and professional growth, citing opportunities in sectors like agriculture, education, technology, entrepreneurship, and tourism. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the success of the corps members. “Your enthusiasm, creativity, and eagerness to learn are qualities that can leave an indelible mark on Edo State. The Orientation Programme is designed to equip you with the skills, knowledge, and mindset needed to excel during your service year and in your future endeavors, and as such, it should be given the attention it deserves.” he stated.
Earlier, NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, represented by the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Ben-Ushie Frances Ifeoma, announced the commencement of the course on Wednesday, April 23rd, 2025. As of Thursday, April 24th, 2025, a total of 1344 prospective corps members, comprising 579 males and 765 females, had been registered and were ready to be sworn in.

Mrs. Ben-Ushie congratulated the corps members, urging them to embrace the opportunities for networking and lifelong friendships that the NYSC platform provides. She implored them to be disciplined and receptive to learning, as it is crucial to achieving the objectives of the scheme.
She also expressed gratitude to the Edo State Government for consistently providing transportation for corps members at the end of the orientation camp. Furthermore, she highlighted the NYSC’s contribution to the state’s socio-economic development through skilled manpower provision and promotion of national unity. However, she also brought to the Governor’s attention some existing challenges hindering the smooth implementation of NYSC programs within the state and requested government intervention.
The highlight of the event was the administration of the Oath of Allegiance by the Chief Judge of Edo State, Hon. Justice Daniel Iyobosa Okungbowa, represented by Hon. Justice Vestee Otumaye Eboreime. The corps members pledged to serve Nigeria with dedication, honesty, and loyalty.
