The Lagos State Cooperative College (LASCOCO) is forging a partnership with the Edo State Ministry of Business, Trade, and Cooperatives to enhance the skills and knowledge of cooperative trustees and members in Edo State.
Dr. Walid Adebosin, Ag. Provost of LASCOCO, announced the collaboration during a visit from the Edo State team to LASCOCO’s Agege campus on Thursday. The visit served as an opportunity for the Edo delegation to examine LASCOCO’s academic programs and training initiatives.
Dr. Adebosin emphasized LASCOCO’s commitment to providing students with entrepreneurial skills beyond their diploma qualifications. He stated that all students participate in vocational training programs at the Lagos State Women Development Centre, explaining, “This is the reason for the collaboration with that arm of the state government agency.”
Highlighting LASCOCO’s focus, Dr. Adebosin explained that the college’s core mission is to develop the capabilities of cooperative trustees and members. “The function of supplying the skilled labor requirement of the state birthed the accredited National Diploma programmes and other courses in the institution,” he said.
He further added that the college is guided by “the philosophy of entrepreneurship initiative, which ensures that students have additional skills aside from their diploma qualification certificate in their chosen course of study.” Dr. Adebosin affirmed LASCOCO’s enthusiasm for collaborations aimed at advancing cooperative movement and education.
Mrs. Felicia Edopholor, Permanent Secretary of the Edo State Ministry of Business, Trade, and Cooperatives, expressed her satisfaction with LASCOCO’s curriculum and programs. She also conveyed the ministry’s eagerness to collaborate, emphasizing the critical need for training within cooperative societies. “It is not just enough to run a cooperative society; you should know the nitty-gritty of running it,” she stated.
Mrs. Edopholor praised LASCOCO’s curriculum, particularly its collaboration with the Women Development Centre and its accreditation by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB). She noted that the partnership between LASCOCO and the ministry is designed to cultivate the capacity of cooperative societies in Edo State, promoting both entrepreneurship and skills acquisition.
Mrs. Edopholor concluded that LASCOCO’s expertise in cooperative education and training would positively impact the growth and development of cooperative societies throughout Edo State.
