The Edo State Government has warned holders of Ososo commmunity Chieftaincy titles to restrict their activities to their respective quarters in Ososo kingdom.
The warning was handed down by the State’s Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Sir (Dr.) Lucky Eseigbe following a petition the Olososo of Ososo Oba (Dr.) Bamidele Obaitan filed against the High Chief of Egbetua Quarters of Ososo, Chief Peter Momoh.
Making his submission at a Mediation sitting convened by the State’s government, Oba Obaitan accused Chief Momoh of parading himself as the Olososo of Ososo and conferring chieftaincy titles on persons in other quarters of the community; an act which he emphasized runs contrary to the Ososo traditional Institution.
Oba Obaitian alleged that the actions of Chief Momoh has sparked unrest and compromised security in the Community.
“We are one Ososo Kingdom with five quarters. There is one Ososo tradtional Council. Peter Momoh is trying to create a parallel traditional Council. He is from Egbetua Quarters which is under Ososo. My question is under what authority is he going around to different quarters giving chieftaincy titles, Oba Obaitan queried.
Responding Chief Peter Momoh denied ever claiming kingship over Ososo. He stated that his title was conferred on him by his own kindred and that he has never conferred any titles on anyone else: demanding proof of contrary claims.
Speaking on the issues, the Commissioner thanked the petitioners for raising the concerns. He called for continuing vigilance over such matters.
He strongly advised Chief Momoh remain within the confines of the chieftaincy that was conferred on him amongst his kindred and not as a royal father or chief of the entire kingdom.
Dr Eseigbe warned that any attempt by Chief Momoh to misconduct himself in any manner that will bring about the breach of peace in the community will not be tolerated
‘’The government of Senator Monday Okpebholo stand for peace and our duty as a supervisory ministry is to ensure peace in our traditional institutions across the state’’ the Commissioner added.
