Edo State Police Commissioner, Mr. Monday Agbonika, has issued a strong statement condemning the recent killing of eight personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the abduction of a Chinese expatriate in Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area.
During a visit to the scene of the attack on Tuesday, Agbonika described the incident as a “heinous crime” and assured the public that those responsible would be tracked down and prosecuted. He extended heartfelt condolences to the NSCDC command in Edo, honoring the fallen officers as courageous individuals who lost their lives in the line of duty.
“These gallant men made the ultimate sacrifice to protect others. Their deaths will not be in vain. We stand shoulder to shoulder with the NSCDC in this moment of grief, and the people of Edo can be confident that justice will be served,” Agbonika declared.
The attack, which occurred on Friday, also involved the kidnapping of a Chinese national working at BUA Cement in Okpella. In a separate meeting with members of the Chinese community, the Commissioner reassured stakeholders that security forces were actively pursuing the abductors and working tirelessly to ensure the safe return of the victim.
“Our operatives are fully deployed in the area. Surveillance and tactical operations have been ramped up. We are committed to rescuing the kidnapped individual and preventing further threats to safety,” he said.
Agbonika called on residents to remain calm and vigilant, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in combating crime. He urged citizens to share credible intelligence that could aid the investigation and ongoing security efforts.
“Security is not the sole responsibility of law enforcement—it’s a shared duty. We need the public’s support to dismantle criminal networks and restore peace,” he added.
Reaffirming the command’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property, Agbonika stressed that the police would not rest until the perpetrators were apprehended and held accountable.
The incident has sparked renewed calls for enhanced security measures in vulnerable areas of Edo State, as authorities continue their pursuit of justice and safety for all.
