- Edo Governor Okpebholo Warns Contractors: “No Room for Mediocrity, No Tolerance for Corruption”
Governor Monday Okpebholo has issued a stern warning to contractors handling state projects, declaring that his administration will not hesitate to terminate the contracts of those who fail to meet required standards.
The governor made this known on Sunday at Government House, Benin, during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Edo State. The statement was conveyed by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua.
“Edo Resources Are for the People”
Governor Okpebholo emphasized that his mission is to serve Edo people selflessly and deliver meaningful development without compromise.
“My mission is clear: to serve the Edo people selflessly and to transform their lives through meaningful development. We will not tolerate mediocrity. Any contractor who fails to meet project specifications will be shown the way out. Edo resources are for the people, not for compromise or favoritism,” he said.
He stressed that no contractor had paid bribes to secure projects under his watch, reaffirming his administration’s zero-tolerance policy for corruption. He further warned that even members of his government would not be spared if found engaging in corrupt practices.
Call for Unity Beyond Politics
The governor urged IPAC to remain partners in progress, stressing that the time for partisan politics was over and that governance must now take precedence.
“The people must unite and work towards building a state that all can be proud of,” he added.
IPAC Commends Governor’s Reforms
The IPAC delegation, led by Greg Igbinomwanhia, Chairman of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), praised the governor for embarking on legacy projects such as the Ramat Park Flyover.
Igbinomwanhia also lauded the administration for regularising the appointments of over 5,000 teachers who had previously been on contract, describing the move as a significant step toward strengthening the state’s education system.
The delegation, which included chairmen of 17 political parties in Edo, expressed readiness to collaborate with the administration, noting their conviction in the governor’s sincerity and commitment to the welfare of the people.
