Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has pledged enhanced welfare and a supportive service year for corps members deployed to the state. Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream I corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Okada, Governor Okpebholo, represented by the Commissioner for Youth Affairs, Mrs. Charity Amayaenvbo, reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to youth empowerment, safety, and entrepreneurship.
The governor encouraged corps members to embrace innovation, community service, and self-reliance, urging them to create value and serve their host communities with dedication and compassion.
He assured them that the state government is addressing key concerns raised by the NYSC leadership, with provisions for accommodation, meal subsidies, logistics, and a multipurpose hall included in the approved 2026 budget.
Edo State NYSC Coordinator, Dr. Frances Ben-Ushie, praised the state government’s commitment to youth development and national integration. She noted that 1,235 prospective corps members, comprising 531 males and over 700 females, had been registered.
Dr. Ben-Ushie highlighted the NYSC’s contributions to the state’s development through initiatives like the Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers and the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme.
She also appealed for further intervention to address operational challenges at the orientation camp, expressing confidence that resolving these issues would enhance the effectiveness of NYSC programmes in the state.
