The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has urgently called on security agencies to investigate allegations that the acting Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Jarrett Tenebe, issued a death threat to a Facebook user.
The alleged threat was directed at Blessing P Agho, who had reportedly criticized Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo in a social media post on Saturday, February 7, 2026.
Screenshots shared by Blessing P Agho on her Facebook page purportedly show Tenebe threatening, “Death Awaits You; Send Me Your Address.” The user claims the APC chairman’s messages included phrases such as, “Your death is close. You are a bastard, just show where you are if you can. Death awaits you, idiot. Send me your address or come out to Wuse 2 in front of Atiku’s campaign office at 9pm tomorrow.”
The Edo State PDP has responded swiftly, demanding a full investigation into the alleged death threat and calling for the prosecution of Tenebe if the allegations are substantiated.
In a statement released by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Dan Osa-Ogbegie, the PDP emphasized that citizens should not live in fear of expressing their opinions, and political office holders should not be allowed to issue threats with impunity.
The party also urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene, calling on him to publicly disassociate himself from threats of violence, voter intimidation, and any anti-democratic behavior in Edo State. The PDP argues that silence from the President could be interpreted as an endorsement of such conduct.
“The Edo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) condemns, in the strongest terms, the reckless, thuggish, and openly murderous threats issued by the Acting Chairman of the Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Jarrett Tenebe, against a female citizen whose only ‘offence’ was to criticise the misgovernance and failures of the Monday Okpebholo administration,” the statement read.
The PDP views Tenebe’s alleged actions as a dangerous escalation, stating that “When a party chairman believes he can threaten citizens with death for exercising their constitutional right to free expression, democracy itself is under assault. Mr Tenebe’s conduct is the language of fear, intimidation and brute force, not of democratic leadership.”
The PDP statement further asserted that Tenebe’s behavior reflects a broader pattern of “intolerance and lawlessness” within the Edo APC under Governor Okpebholo, accusing the party of replacing persuasion with coercion.
The PDP is calling on President Tinubu to consider the implications of such behavior, questioning whether support built on “threats, lies and the terrorisation of citizens” is beneficial. The party concluded by stating that Nigeria’s democracy is too fragile to be entrusted to those who believe power is maintained through fear and that Tenebe’s actions, if unchecked, could lead to further violence and instability.
