Rivers Angels secured a 2-1 victory over Edo Queens in a captivating match held at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on Wednesday. Abasiofon Uwah’s brace proved decisive, despite a valiant effort from Edo Queens.
Edo Queens’ coach, Moses Aduku, while acknowledging the defeat, expressed satisfaction with his team’s overall performance. “Well first and foremost, I have to thank God for the game, it was up to standard,” Aduku stated after the match. “The team that scored two goals won the game. But all the same I give kudos to my girls for fighting to the end to see how they could get the equalizer but it did not come. No problem it was a good game.”
Atume Doosur’s equaliser for Edo Queens proved insufficient as Rivers Angels maintained their lead. Aduku pinpointed missed opportunities in the first half and defensive errors as key factors in the loss.
“Actually in the first half of the game we got the opportunity to score we did not take it, football is you get your chance you take it,” Aduku lamented.
He further noted, “Secondly my defenders were caught napping, the scorer of the second game was in offside positional play, but if my defenders had stood well they would have stopped her. But all the same football is like that, one mistake you pay for it.”
Despite the loss, Aduku remains optimistic about his team’s prospects, emphasizing the fighting spirit displayed by his players.
