Edo State University, Iyamoh, welcomed 1,152 new students into its academic community during its 11th matriculation ceremony held on Thursday. The event marked a significant milestone for both the incoming students and the rapidly growing institution.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Victor Adetimirin congratulated the matriculating students, urging them to dedicate themselves to their studies and embrace the values of discipline, integrity, and hard work. He encouraged them to leverage the university’s modern learning facilities and conducive academic environment.
Professor Adetimirin highlighted the university’s impressive expansion since its establishment in 2016. Starting with three faculties and eight academic programs, Edo State University now boasts nine faculties offering over 30 fully accredited undergraduate programs.
These programs have received approval from the National Universities Commission and relevant professional bodies, ensuring high academic standards.
The university is also committed to postgraduate education through its College of Postgraduate Studies, which offers a range of programs including PGD, Masters, MBA, MPA, MPhil, and Ph.D. degrees across various disciplines. The institution prioritizes producing graduates equipped to compete in the global landscape through consistent accreditation efforts and expanding research capabilities.
A pivotal achievement for Edo State University has been the establishment and ongoing development of the Edo State University Iyamho Teaching Hospital in Auchi. This accomplishment, coupled with the full accreditation of the MBBS program by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, has significantly bolstered the university’s medical training and clinical education.
Professor Adetimirin expressed gratitude to the Edo State Government for its unwavering support and strategic investment in the university’s educational growth and development. He emphasized that the government’s commitment to quality education, infrastructure development, and institutional autonomy has fostered an environment where Edo State University, Iyamoh, can continue to flourish.
