The Edo State Police Command has apprehended 65 suspected kidnappers following a coordinated midnight raid in Aviele, Etsako West Local Government Area. The operation, conducted at approximately 2:45 AM on March 2, 2026, targeted Zango and Max Square properties, known hideouts for criminal activity.
According to ASP Eno Ikoedem, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, the arrests were the result of credible intelligence and technical analysis linking the locations to ransom negotiation activities. Tactical teams from the State Headquarters, in conjunction with operatives from Area Command Auchi and Area Command Ekpoma, executed the raid with precision.
The swift operation resulted in the arrest of all 65 suspects without any casualties. During the raid, police recovered N1.8 million in cash, suspected to be proceeds from ransom payments. Authorities also seized Nigerian Army uniforms and kits, along with other incriminating evidence.
The suspects and recovered items have been transported to the State Headquarters in Benin City for further investigation.
ASP Ikoedem stated that the suspects are currently undergoing thorough investigation to determine the extent of their involvement in kidnapping operations.
