Governor Monday Okpebholo says commuters will soon get relief on the busy Sapele Road corridor as reconstruction work advances and parts of the route prepare to reopen to traffic in the coming weeks.
The governor gave the assurance on Friday during an on-the-spot assessment of the project in Benin City, noting that his administration is focused on practical steps to reduce travel hardship while ensuring long-term durability.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Patrick Ebojele, Okpebholo commended the pace of work on critical segments, describing contractor performance as encouraging and consistent with timelines.
He singled out progress on portions being handled by CBC Global, where motorists can now move more freely between sections connecting Edo and Delta States.
Work awarded to CCECC is at an earlier phase, the governor explained, but he projected that major stretches under that scope would be delivered before year-end. To cushion commuter stress in the interim, temporary access will be created on completed sections once safety checks are cleared.
Okpebholo linked the state’s infrastructure push to federal backing under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said is driving key road rehabilitation efforts across the country.
Speaking during the inspection, Special Adviser on Projects Implementation and Monitoring, Phoebe Williams-Bello, said the site visit was intended to speed up delivery and roll out short-term measures. She disclosed that palliative interventions — including stone base laying and structured traffic diversion — will commence next week to improve accessibility while concrete sections are allowed to properly cure for safety and longevity.
