Edo Queens have been crowned champions of the 2025/26 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership after a tense and disciplined goalless draw against defending champions Bayelsa Queens in the decisive Super Six match.
The thrilling final encounter took place on Sunday at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The result was all Edo Queens needed to top the Super Six standings and lift the prestigious league title for the second time in three seasons.
Going into the final round, the Benin-based side had already built a commanding lead after securing three consecutive victories in the Super Six phase, including a hard-fought 2-1 win over Rivers Angels on Matchday Four. With the title within reach, they only needed a point from the clash with Bayelsa Queens to seal the championship.
In a match filled with high stakes and defensive intensity, both teams battled fiercely, but neither could find the back of the net. The goalless outcome sparked jubilant celebrations among the Edo Queens players and technical team, who proudly displayed their dominance throughout the campaign.
This victory further cements Edo Queens’ position as one of the powerhouses in Nigerian women’s football. The triumph comes just two years after they claimed their maiden NWFL title during the 2023/24 season, highlighting the club’s consistency and upward trajectory.
